International Experience Canada
(IEC) applicants whose letter of introduction is about to expire and who are
not able to travel
These
instructions provide info on the procedure for extending the letter of introduction
for International Experience Canada (IEC) applicants who have been approved to
travel to Canada but unable to do so.
International
Experience Canada (IEC) applicants whose letter of introduction (LOI) is about
to expire and who are not able to travel may be able to extend their LOI.
These
instructions apply to IEC applicants in the following categories:
- Young
Professionals
- International
Co-op (Internship)
- Working
Holiday
Non-IEC
foreign nationals will have to submit a new applicant to IRCC if below all
applicable:
- They
received an LOI for their work permit application
- They
received the maximum extension applicable to their category
- They
have yet to enter Canada
- Their
LOI has expired or will expire before they can travel
Granting
Extensions
Foreign
nationals may be eligible for an extension on their LOI of up to 12 months if
they meet the following criteria:
- They
received an LOI for their work permit application under the IEC program
- Their
LOI will expire within 30 days
- Applicants
must make their extension request using IRCC’s Web form.
The
length of an extension will depend on the following factors:
- Whether
they have already received an extension
- Whether
their medical exam on file can be reassessed and extended (if applicable)
Decisions
on all submitted LOI extensions will be made on a case-by-case basis at the discretion
of the immigration officer.
Temporary
resident visa-required participants
Request
for an LOI extension from temporary resident visa-require participants will be
forwarded to the International Network (IN) for processing as per existing
procedures between the Centralized Network (CN) and IN. if the IEC participant
will be working in one of the essential
National Occupation Classification (NOC) occupations. Cases that are not
considered essential NOC occupations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis
by IN.
A new LOI will not
be issued, but a response will be sent to the applicant using a template
letter. It is important for the applicant to travel with this letter as it will
be requested by the border services officer upon entry to Canada.
